Communication is transfer of information from one person to another, whether or not it elicits confidence. But the information must be understandable to the receiver. It is the process of transmission of ideas, thoughts, feelings & behaviour from one person to another person.
Communication is persuasive & seeks to obtain a desirable response to what is being transmitted & it’s a two way process.

Nature of communication :

Communication is a two-way process it involves a sender & receiver. The sender or receiver can be an individual or a group. There has to be a message. The message can be informative, a directive, an enquiry, a feeling, an opinion, an idea or any other.
Communication can occur only when there is commonness of understanding between sender & the receiver. The commonness includes factors like common culture, common language & common environment. The information transmitted to the receiver evokes a response in the form of some change in his behaviour. Information can be given through words or through other means like signs gestures, expressions etc.

Elements of communication :

Sender :

Sender can also be considered as a communicator, message Encoder. It is the person who takes the decision to encode the message or to communicate. The communicator is fully aware of the purpose of the message to inform, persuade or entertain. The source encodes the message by speaking, writing, gesturing or smiling & while doing so receives messages from himself & the other person. The art of producing messages is termed as Encoding. The communicator is also called communicator-receiver as they are the two roles of a person performed in quick succession.

Message :

Message refers to the information, ideas or appeal which has to be commicated to the audience.A good message is one which is valid, unambiguous & of utility to the receiver.

Channel or medium :

Channel is the medium through which the message passes. It can be recorded as a vehicle that takes the message to the receiver & brings back their response. Channel includes verbal & non-verbal forms of communication.

Receiver :

Receiver is the person who receives the message or for whom the message is meant. It is the receiver who tries to understand the message in the best possible manner who is achieving the desired objective.

Feedback :

Communication is a circular process, as the message is transmitted from sender to the receiver; a return message is transmitted in the opposite direction, called feedback.”Feedback is action-reaction inter-dependence”.

Interpersonal Communication :

Interpersonal communication is the process of sending & receiving information between two or more people.Interpersonal communication differs from other forms of communication in that there are few participants involved, the communicators are in close physical proximity to each other, there are many sensory channels used,& feedback is immediate.
